There were 9,954 newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts, increasing the total number of cases to 1,803,391 since the pandemic began, the state Department of Public Health reported on Thursday.
In their weekly report, state officials also reported 1,212 new probable cases of coronavirus for a statewide total of 163,528.
The DPH reported as of July 27, there were 171 patients primarily hospitalized with COVID-19 related illness and 616 total patients hospitalized with COVID-19.
There were 48 patients in the intensive care units, or ICUs, and 19 patients were intubated.
Barnstable County numbers
Closer to home, in Thursday’s weekly report, DPH officials said Barnstable County posted 351 new coronavirus cases, for a total 41,790 since the pandemic started. There were 22 new coronavirus cases in Dukes County, for a total to date of 4,012. Nantucket County reported 12 new cases, for a total 3,651.
Those five deaths and 385 new cases on the Cape and Islands is steady from the last report, which showed seven deaths and 388 new cases locally.

The state’s seven-day positivity rate was 8.09%. Barnstable County came in at 9.95%, and Dukes and Nantucket’s 14-day positivity rate was 10.11%.
Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis was treating 16 patients with coronavirus. There was one patient in intensive care. Falmouth Hospital reported five patients, with no patients in intensive care. There were no patients with coronavirus in Martha’s Vineyard Hospital or Nantucket Cottage Hospital.
DPH officials said Thursday there were 38 new deaths statewide among people with confirmed cases of COVID-19, increasing the total deaths to 19,898 since the pandemic began.
There were 11 deaths from probable cases of COVID-19. The number of deaths from probable cases is 1,278 in Massachusetts.
There were five new deaths in Barnstable County, the DPH reported. The total probable and confirmed deaths from COVID-19 is 621 in Barnstable County. There were no new deaths in Dukes and Nantucket counties combined, for a total fatality count of 20 since the pandemic began in March 2020.
