Lynne Cowan was in a tie for first after one day of stroke play at the U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur Golf Championships.
By Sunday, Cowan was all alone atop the field.
The Rocklin, California, golfer shot a 1-over par 73 to lead the field at Anchorage Golf Course. Cowan was one of 64 golfers to advance through the stroke-play portion of the championships. Match play starts Monday and runs through Thursday.
Cowan shot a 2-under par 34 on the front nine to get off to a quick start. She had six pars and three bogeys on the back nine. Cowan was 2-over after the opening round and leads the field at 3-over.
The round of the day went to Canadian Shelly Stouffer, who finished two shots behind Cowan after the two days of stroke play. Stouffer fired an eye-popping 32 on the front nine and finished the day with a 4-under par 68.
Stouffer is the only player in the tournament to card an under-par round during the first two days of competition.
Alaska’s Pam Chesla, the state’s only representative, shot a 93 Sunday and missed the cut.
