In addition, Bharat Biotech’s Covid vaccine could be more effective against the Covaxin omicron variant, said an Indian Medical Research Council (ICMR) official. The Hindu Business Line said in a report without giving an anonymous official that Kovacin is likely to be more effective against Omicron than other available vaccines. Covacin, a virion-inactivated vaccine, covers the entire virus and may work against this highly mutated new variant, the official explained.

Another anonymous ICMR official said in the report that covacin was also found to be effective against other types such as alpha, beta, gamma and delta. Once we receive the samples, we will test the effectiveness of this vaccine at the National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune.
