📢 The Oceanside Chamber will hold its 14th Annual North County Health & Wellness Fair on August 11 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. The North County Health Fair is free to the public and a great way to receive information, meet a new health specialist or learn more about healthy living. Located at the beautiful Oceanside Civic Center Plaza, the North County Health Fair will run concurrently with the Thursday Farmer’s Market. More info

  1. Mark your calendars for fireworks shows, outdoor concerts, a Samoan cultural celebration, The Watermelon Festival and more happening in July around Oceanside. July is stacking up to be an event-filled month in Oceanside. Check out some of our favorite happenings coming up this month. (Oceanside-Camp Pendleton Patch)
  2. San Diego County Crime Log: Here’s a look at some of this week’s police, fire and courtroom stories. The CHP will crack down on aggressive, distracted and intoxicated driving during the Fourth of July holiday. A seized $300 million Russian Superyacht is docked in San Diego. A woman was sentenced for an Escondido crash that killed four, including two kids. (San Diego Patch)
  3. Days after his passing, a push is now underway to honor a Camp Pendleton-trained Marine veteran, who was the last remaining Medal of Honor recipient from World War II. On Wednesday, Hershel ‘Woody’ Williams, the last surviving World War II Congressional Medal of Honor recipient, passed away in West Virginia at the age of 98. “He was symbol of a generation that is passing the torch,” said John Raughter, spokesperson for the American Legion.   4. San Diego-area Honda dealerships said they will provide free gas to a select number of veterans, active and retired military members as well as local Honda drivers this weekend. Ahead of Fourth of July, Helpful Honda will pump free gas to the first 100 eligible drivers during various events at gas stations in Vista, Oceanside and Poway between Friday and Monday. The program is first-come, first-served and only those with valid I.D. showing their military status or a Honda vehicle will be permitted to receive the free fill-up. (FOX 5 San Diego)
  5. San Diego County Government: take care to secure and calm your pets while fireworks are going off. Every year, dozens of dogs end up at shelters after Fourth of July fireworks shows. If you’re lucky, your dog doesn’t react to the explosions and shrill whistles of fireworks set off to celebrate the holiday.
